Wests Under 6 v Kiwi 1
Wests U6 had a great battle against Kiwi 1 at Cass Square, kicking off at 10.00am. The competition was tough and the teams were evenly matched. The draw was led by our youngest of the season Captain Jordan Thorpe. Wests skills on attack and defence continued to shine.

Some very impressive speed and manoeuvres led to four tries being awarded to Billy Vincent and five being awarded to our player of the day Allan Harris. Tiaki Anderson and Martin Hagn-Meincke, who did not let ill health stop him, scored one try each. Caleb Beri was once again awesome on defence.

The players fought hard and continued their battle right till the end. Along with the South Westland game, this game was one of the best of the season to watch. The three week break took its toll on a couple of the players but all-in-all West’s U6’s gave us another mighty performance.

Blaketown Black Panthers vs Sth Westland

The Blaketown Panthers versed South Westland at Ross. It was an excellent game. Trajun Kanara-Smith continued to show his good form with great defence and hard running with the ball in hand. Hunter Crossan and Angelina Robinson showed great skills with defence and attack.

Marist v Blaketown Red Dragons

Blaketown Dragons and Marist had a great game this week at Arthur Fong Park.
The cold, windy conditions did not dampen Marist’s spirits with all players contributing to the team’s best effort of the season, with their player of the Day, Liam Galbraith, was visible the entire game, strong on both defence and attack.

Along with Mackley Fahey and Korban Bellis they were hunting the opposition on defence and had fast, strong runs with the ball in hand.
For Marist, Fynn O’Keefe won the Most Improved Player of the Day due to his excellent running with the ball and spending more time on the field. Try scorers were James and Elliot van der Geest, Eamon O’Keefe, Callan McGuire-Lowe, Galbraith and Bellis. Young Billie Hampton also scored her very first try of the season.

With a few players away for the Dragons, the remaining six had to cover a lot of ground on defence with all players ripping and chasing well this also allowed for plenty of running with the ball and plenty of tries, with an excellent first try to the youngest in the team Sam Drawbridge, tries also went to Nikau Prendergast, Jayden Richardson , Brayden Williams and Carlos Whyte. Mosese Funaki was unlucky not to score with some powerful runs at the line .Player of the day went to Jayden with 2 tries and great following up.

Wests v South Westland

On a typical West Coast Saturday it was great to see both Wests and South Westland were all keen to show up after a long break from rugby to play some exciting running rugby for all the parents and Grandparents to see.

The grounds at the Ross rugby club were ready in what turned out to be a very high scoring game. One parent described the game as of great "passion" where after the final whislte both teams were blowing their lungs out big time. In an evenly matched physical encounter Wests ran out eventual winners 35-25, after leading 15-10 at half time

Both teams were trading tries right from the word go. Wests players to score tries were Ben Hawker, Connor Greig, Lachlan Baird and Jesse Jones while other players to stand out with some great runs were Jonty Robertson, Jacob Kelly, Liam Smith, Connor Jones, George Rea, Oliver Nixon, Finn McClunie, James Dawson and Scott Matthews.

It was very had to pick players of the day because everyone was so keen to get the ball and have a run but for Wests it was decided that Cameron Smith and Micheal Lord deserved the awards. Wests dominated possession with a strong forward display which resulted in some well taken tries.

For South Westland Willie McBride, Ethan Lash, and Harry Friend didnt stop for the whole game with some great tries and some good tackling. Jack Dennehy Coles,Tom Hodges and Dan Treanor all ran the ball well with some great tackling. South Westland never gave up and scored 5 tries, including two to both Willie McBride and Dan Treanor, and one to Niall Alexander. Mitchell Molloy Fitzpatrick won Man of the Match for South Westland with a strong performance in the forward pack.

For Wests Connor Greig and Ben Hawker made some outstanding tackles against the Southern boys. A big thank you to the ref and also for the great after match feed at the Roddy Nugget cafe which both kids and parents really enjoyed.

Marist v Blaketown

Marist came up against Blaketown and both teams were keen to get back into rugby after the school holidays. Marist passed and ran the ball well. Marist v Wests

Marist overcame a determined Wests 30-10 in their semifinal. Both teams were a bit rusty and took a while to settle into the game. Marists forward of the day Geordie Gibson nailed some flying tackles and picked up plenty of loose ball while Harry Robb and Sam Welsford put plenty of pressure on their opposition for Marist. In the backs Dominic Moles was in top form scoring 3 excellent tries and he shared the Marists Back of the day award with Mac Gibson who put in another display of huge defence. Marists player of the day was Matthew Robbins for yet another solid all round game. Robbins, Jonathan Watts and Ollie Robb scored Marist's other tries.

The Wests players should have been very proud of themselves and their teams performance. After a break over the holidays they came together as a team and played there best game of the season against the tough Marist opposition. No 8 Arnie Gibbens had another good game showing his strength with ball in hand. Wests did lose the game 30-10 but were in it till the end. Try scorer for Wests was Jacob Harris with 1 in each half. Players of the day were Blake Love for the backs and Kirk Magner in the forwards.
Congratulations to Wests players, Arnie Gibbens, Kirk Magner and Jacob Harris for being chosen to represent West Coast in the upcoming games against Buller.

Blaketown vs Kiwi

A 3 week gap between games certainly did showed in the first half with a lot of dropped ball and lack lustre play from our Blaketown team. Kiwi turned up ready to play and definitely too the game to us in the first half with the half time score being 15 all.

After some guidance at half time the seagulls were a different team with the forwards lead by Alex Clark clearing out clean ball and running straight and hard like a true No. 8. Patrick Haussman earned himself player of the day for playing his career best game with some strong running and full involvement in the game.

George Gilbertson had his usual strong tackling and elusive running game to help deliver clean ball to our classy back line. Luke Brooks and Brooklyn Arnesen ensured good cleaning out in the forwards. Jacob Thomson had a fantastic defensive game cleaning up Kiwi runners with some very strong tackles. The Blaketown backline showed their usual classy running game in the second half when the actually got to see some clean ball. Try scorers were Alex Clark 3, Jack Campbell, Riley Pascoe 2 , Calder Low.

Final score Blaketown 35 - Kiwi 25

Blaketown vs Marist
It was a very fired up and excited Blaketown team that took the field and it only took a couple of minutes to gain control of the match with some great tries scored through the backs using the space out wide. With the team playing the best game of the season they continued to heap pressure on the opposition. The forwards were well led by Cade Lynch, Joe Hurrel and Angus Gilbertson while the Teighan Heney and Eve Findlay ensured quality ball was given out wide to centres Levi Pascoe and Jack Skipper.

After completely dominating all around the field the team took a large lead into halftime. The second half saw Marist fight hard but Blaketown was again too strong right across the park, with a few positional changes it was great to see Jordyn and Breyton Solomon step up their game, while Carlos Skipper and Josh Ricketts had some great runs as well.

It was great to note that the team took pride in defending their line as they ran out eventual winners 35-0. Keeley Sexton and Jack Skipper both scored 5 tries each as they took advantage of all the hard work and effort the whole team was putting in.

West v Blaketown

The conditions were good when Wests met with Blaketown at Cass Square on Saturday. The Wests forwards ran hard and tackled well and did the job. This would have to be one of Wests best games with some great team work.

There's too many players to mention in this game for Wests, because there was such a big effort made by the whole team.Tetini Timono had his goal kicking radar on, playing extremely well earning him player of the day.

Blaketown with only fourteen players, played well who where bigger in the forwards and had about five reserves. Fifteen minutes into the game Blaketown were in the lead 7 to 5 but were out played for the next 30 minutes by the bigger forward pack who pushed the smaller Blaketown team back and scored often.

Blaketown came back at Wests scoring 2 nice try's by passing the ball through there back line and dotting down over the line in the last part of the game. The final score of Wests 74 Blaketown 19 did not reflect the game. It was a hard fought game. All Blaketown players played well in both attack and defence and were unlucky not to score more tries.

Blaketown player of the day was Andrew McCallum with most improved player of the day being Liam Jackson.
Wests won 74-19 putting them into the final against Marist next weekend.
